So, the general scenario is – to quit a job only when you have the next one in hand! Or when you have a backup plan ready.
But wait – that can be no rule but it’s good practice.
This might not be the ideal scenario.
It happened to me three times when I quit the job; yes, I did not have any job at that time.
My dad said it’s risky.
No one does this. Get a job and then quit!
I didn’t want to wait- it was getting overwhelming for me.
Let me talk about my three scenarios when I quit a job without having another one in hand. And yes, it was a Good decision.
SCENARIO – 1
When the Company is About to Shut-Down:
Imagine you are working at a place which is going towards closure.
Why are you waiting and for what?
Are you waiting for a formal closure or the day when you know the doors will not open?
Quit before the company shuts down!
It will save you from an emotional roller-coaster, especially when you have been a part of the company for long. You love everything about the company and your colleagues are great.
But… the company is shutting down – it’s guaranteed. Make a move and save yourself from that sad day. Quit when things are not as bad and begin a fresh start.
I have done that and believe me I got a new job in just a few days.
SCENARIO – 2
You are About To Be Fired
We have all faced this (in the private sector) when we felt that it’s the last day today!
A bad feedback from client, repeated problems at work, a bad incident, insults, politics and we know that it isn’t going to workout.
Things are not getting better and there are no chances of things improving as well.
You have that inner feeling, that you are being targeted.
Your close friends are telling you, people are hinting about terminations.
Why take the risk?
Instead of receiving a termination letter and going through the extreme mental pressure, put down the papers.
Resign before you are asked to leave.
Scenario 3:
When Your Mental Sanity is at Stake
Office or workplace is never a bed of roses for anyone.
Daily challenges at the office are a part of our lives..but at times the situation goes beyond control.
Mental sanity is at stake and people feel depressed, hopeless, demotivated and interest in their work.
It starts affecting their family and social life.
To keep your mental sanity at stake, it is always good to quit even if you do not have any job in hand.
It’s going to save you from the agony definitely.
So, quit now
Scenario 4
It’s about your Reputation
Workplace ethics!
Something that doesn’t exist most of the time.
If things are getting sour, you are being blamed for something you are not responsible or when people are pointing fingers at your reliability or trustability, your reputation is at stake.
No, you don’t have to run away all the time!
Try and explain.
Sort things out but if nothing works your way.
Call it quits!
You cannot compromise on your reputation for any company.
Have you faced any of these situations ever in your life?
